About HDH Records, Inc.
The Seeds of Eddie Holland dba Holland Group’s musical career took root in the talent-rich city of Detroit, Michigan. In the early sixties, brothers Edward and Brian Holland along with friend Lamont Dozier began their exciting, and soon to be legendary songwriting careers. Holland-Dozier-Holland has come to be known as one of the most accomplished songwriting teams in the history of popular music. Their credits include such Top Ten Hits as: “Stop In The Name Of Love”, “Baby Love”, “Where Did Our Love Go”, “You Can’t Hurry Love”, “You Just Keep Me Hanging On”, “Nowhere To Run”, “Love Is Like A Heat Wave”, “Baby I Need Your Loving”, “I Can’t Help Myself Sugar Pie”, “Reach Out I’ll Be There”, “How Sweet It Is To Be Loved By You”, “Can I Get A Witness”, “Ain’t Too Proud To Beg”, and “(I Know) I’m Losing You” along with Co-writer Norman Whitfield, and “Please Mr. Postman”.
Holland-Dozier-Holland’s rendering of “Come And Get These Memories” by Martha and The Vandellas, heralded their crossover movement from the R&B charts onto Pop Music’s broad landscape. The combining of these three talents and the rise of their songs to the top of the charts, paralleled the rise of Motown Records as a music powerhouse, that crossed economical lines and bridged cultural barriers. The Holland-Dozier-Holland configuration has composed over 200 songs, 130 of which have scored on the Pop Charts, over 70 were Top Ten Hits and more than 20 reached the number one chart position.
Fate continued to smile on Edward as he exited Motown to create his own record labels and publishing companies. He established Invictus Records, distributed by Capitol, and Hot Wax Records, Distributed by Neil Bogarts’ Buddah Records and the publishing companies, Gold Forever Music, Inc. (BMI) and Holland Dozier Holland Music, Inc. (ASCAP). At the helm of his own company, Edward sought new music horizons. Once again success struck quickly, as the labels were well represented on the Pop and R&B charts. Freda Payne’s “Band Of Gold” and Chairman Of The Boards pleading “Give Me Just A Little More Time” immediately established the new sound. Eddie was subsequently joined by Brian and Lamont, along with an exceptional production team, under the tutelage of Holland Dozier Holland Productions, began to explode with a torrential out pouring of hits on the music scene. Grammy Award whining “Patches”, Honey Cones “Want Ads” and “Stick Up”, Freda Payne’s Vietnam Era hit, “Bring The Boys Home”, 100 Proof Aged In Soul’s “Somebody’s Been Sleeping In My Bed”, “Love Rites” by Laura Lee, The Flaming Embers’ “I’m Not My Brothers Keeper” and “Westbound #9” were all chart busting records.
The evolution of Eddie Holland dba Holland Group now includes HDH Records, Shanty Town, and Music Merchants Records. In addition to the Invictus and Hot Wax Catalogue activity, Eddie Holland dba Holland Group continues to produce and develop new projects and to explore different music avenues. Currently buzzing the charts, Flexx G, with “Whole Lotta Gangstas Die”, also in the works are CD’s soon to be released on artists Ronnie Laws, Paul Hill and Felisa .
